"Poetry by J. Borges - music by J. Santillán"
Twenty three years ago died in Ginebra, Jorge Luis Borges, a writer like no other in history. He is considered one of the most important figures in latin american literature. To celebrate the life and work of this magnificent poet, the Secretary of Culture of Tucumán (Argentina) commissioned argentinean composer and New York-resident Julio Santillán the creation of a show. It was premiered in 2005.
The show is a selection of seven poems (songs), two short stories and an instrumental piece performed by a singer, a guitarist and a narrator (additional instruments are optional). The songs alternate with short fragments (in spanish with optional english translation) taken from other poems and prologues by Borges. Santillán composed the music utilizing south american folk rhythms such as: milonga, huayno and saya.

Hace 23 años murió en Ginebra, Jorge Luis Borges, un escritor como no ha habido otro en la historia, no solo Argentina, sinó de la literatura hispanoamericana. Para celebrar la vida y la obra de este magnífico poeta, la Secretaría de Cultura de Tucumán encargó en 2004 a Julio Santillán, compositor argentino residente en Nueva York, la creación de un espectáculo. El mismo fue presentado al año siguiente en el “IIº Mayo de las Letras”.
El espectáculo consta de siete poemas transformados en canciónes, un cuento y una obra instrumental interpretados por un cantante, un guitarrista y un narrador (con otros instrumentos opcionales). Santillán compuso la música utilizando rítmos folklóricos sudamericanos tales como la milonga, el huayno y la saya.
